THANK YOU to everyone who registered, ran, walked, volunteered, cheered, and donated!
Mother nature brought us some perfect warm and sunny weather for the Super Sunny 5k 2015 and we had over 130 finishers! We saw a new men’s course record set, and a lot of folks of all ages stuck around for our awards ceremony and raffle, making it a really fun experience with lots of laughs and some really great old fashioned conversations with new friends!
If you ran or walked please help us spread the word about our event by posting a race review on BibRave!
With your help , for a couple of hours, we brought together two communities that foster truly wonderful people: running, and DD/ID professionals, advocates, families, and program participants. And THAT is something really special!
An extra heartfelt thank you to those who spent a few moments longer and a few dollars more to check out our vendors fair that was set up for our walk & roll-a-thon and cookout for our consumers and their families. Several of those we provide services to have been working hard at entrepreneurial pursuits for some time now, and several SOLD OUT of their products! It’s hard to overstate what a positive, meaningful, exciting, and life changing experience this is!

Your participation benefits Garden Center Services, a non-profit based in Burbank, Illinois that provides services to adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities across South-West Chicago and suburbs. GCS operates 11 community integrated group homes, two day programs that provide vocational, therapeutic, and social supports programs, as well as a functioning art program for those who receive services, and who are also artists, to product and sell original artwork.
Although GCS and those we serve receive some State funding, the DD/ID population is facing substantial budget cuts in addition to the more than $300k annual funding gap. Your registration helps to bridge this gap so we can keep the lights on, and continue to give families the peace of mind that their loved ones are not only safe and happy, but also are able to pursue their goals and dreams!
Yours in service,
Annabelle
